Highlights from the parent meeting with the principal,
Drop-Off
Drop off takes place in the indicated parking lot at the corner of Lark Lane and Jefferson School road. There is an entrance and an exit indicated for the parking lot.
Coming in with your student is okay on the first day, but afterwards, we encourage you to leave them at the door unless they are late.
Our tardy bell rings at 8:15. If you are arriving after 8:15, your student must be signed in on a sign in sheet at the office. Mrs. Miller will get the student’s name from you and they will then walk themselves to their classroom. You must enter through the front door as all other doors will be locked.
As you’re walking up to the front, watch out for buses. Buses arrive throughout the day and are not limited to the start or end of the school day. The horseshoe driveway is for limited staff parking, handicap parking, and bus use only. All other individuals need to park in the indicated parking lot.
Students can’t be dropped off before 7:45. There is no supervision prior to this. Our school has business hours like any other establishment.
Planned or sick absences
If you have any planned absences, please let the office know so we can mark them as excused.
If your child is home sick or is something unexpected comes up, please call to excuse your child.
Free and reduced lunch form
Available to be filled out online through the Glendive Public Schools website. Much quicker and easier to fill out online. This has to be completed annually, but only one time per family.
Lunch
If you intend to have lunch with your child, the lunch fee is $5.00. This fee cannot be subtracted from your student’s lunch account as the amount differs from the student lunch fee. You must call prior to 8:45 to reserve your lunch since school lunches are transported from Washington Middle School. The price of snack milk tickets has increased this year from $8 to $10. The price of a student breakfast is $2.00 and the price for a student lunch is $2.25.
Breakfast
No need for students to sign up. Just come in through the front doors, check in for count, and eat your breakfast.
Early out days
Students are released at 1:15 on all early out days
Smart devices or recording devices
Per the Jefferson school handbook, smart devices and any devices capable of audio or video recording must be kept in the student’s locker or backpack during the school day. Recording audio or video constitutes a violation of the school handbook and a potential violation of FERPA. To avoid this issue, devices will not be allowed without prior permission of the classroom teacher and/or administration.
Should your student be in violation of this rule, the device will be held in the office pending pickup by a parent or guardian. The device WILL NOT be released to the student.
Communication
Download the Glendive Public Schools App. All parent teacher communication and necessary quick communication, like busing changes will go out over this app. Keep an eye on the school calendar. This is where we publish upcoming events. It hasn’t yet been updated, but we are working on scheduling events for the year. Events will be marked as private or public. When we do all school assemblies, there is not always room for guests.

Good morning,

Daily Newspaper December 9, 2024 Christmas. A Warm Welcome, Dear Friends, As the holiday season approaches, I warmly welcome you to the annual Christmas newsletter filled with joy, love, and the spirit of giving. I hope this letter finds you all in good health and high spirits. Jefferson is celebrating all of the successes and looking forward to what the new year will bring. Reflections of the year. This year has brought its share of challenges and triumphs, teaching us the value of resilience and gratitude. We've experienced a catastrophic failure of our heating system which threatened to close the school. With the combined ingenuity and hard work of Rhett Coon, plumbers, electricians, and Mr. Keith Russell, we were able to continue without a hiccup. The amount of work that went into this is impressive. School Updates: The Lark Lane construction project is still intermittently causing traffic to detour through the Jefferson School parent parking lot. Please be aware of potential road closure and delays as the construction continues. Just a reminder, the half-circle drive in front of the school is for buses and employees only between 7:45 and 8:15 in the morning and between 2:45 and 3:30 in the afternoon. This restriction is in place to ensure student safety as our students are coming to or leaving from the building. Holiday Traditions: We look forward to renewing holiday traditions. The second grade will be celebrating Polar Express Day! The first grade students celebrate Grinch week. Festive Activities: First and Second Grade Christmas programs went exceptionally well. Mrs. Linder’s heart and care for students were on full display. Caroling: Mrs. Linder will be sharing the joy of Christmas with the community by caroling with the first and second grade students around the community. Kindergarten program: Kindergarten parents, please join us December 12th starting at 1:30 for our Kindergarten program at the Jefferson School gym. A Season of Giving: This year, Jefferson and Lincoln will be competing in a food drive to support our local food bank. Consider contributing to support those in need. This time of year highlights supporting others, but the need doesn’t expire at the close of the holiday season. Wishing you joy: As I close this newsletter, I send out warmest wishes to you and your family. May your holiday season be filled with love, laughter, and countless blessings. We look forward to another year of cherished moments and unforgettable experiences. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. Caleb Swanson

Good morning Jefferson parents and guardians,
The weather is getting colder and your children need to be properly clothed to enjoy their recess time in comfort. Children need jackets, gloves, hats, snow pants, and snow boots if they want to enjoy everything that this Montana weather has to offer. Please ensure your children are properly equipped for the elements. If students are not wearing appropriate clothing for the elements, we will be reaching out to you to bring in additional items so that they can experience recess safely in comfort. Thank you for your cooperation.

Just a reminder parents and guardians,
Jefferson School’s circle drive in front of the school is closed to unauthorized vehicles from 7:45-8:15 in the morning and from 2:45-3:30 in the afternoon. This closure is in place to promote student safety. The drive lane is also one way only. The North end is the entrance and the South end is the exit. During restricted time frames, please utilize the parent parking lot for drop off, pick up, or all other school business. Thank you for your cooperation.
