This patchwork Nutcracker artwork was created by members of this year's Senior class back when they were in Mrs. Barthel's first grade classroom at Jefferson School. Each student colored one or two squares, and together their artwork formed this colorful nutcracker.

Mrs. Hoffer was the recipient of the door decoration eleven years ago, and she saved the squares to display when the class of first graders were Seniors at DCHS. This festive nutcracker is hanging up once again.

Update from the the DCHS Forensics Team:

DCHS Forensics took a smaller team of 11 to Wolf Point on Dec. 6. It was a leisurely meet that many DCHS students used to try new events or new material. There were only 10 schools in attendance.
As the team was not at its full strength, DCHS was not able to earn more sweeps points than the other Class A school, Sidney. However, a few performed outstandingly individually.

Zackariah Henson and Tori Engle scored 1st in Dramatic Theatre, the only Drama entry for DCHS this week.
Jack Carter earned 2nd place on his first time trying Extemporaneous Speaking.
Quinn Sargent also tried Extemporaneous, earning 5th place.
Roman Tuma came home with 4th place in Impromptu.
Emma Hynes earned 6th place with her Informative speech.
Aubrey Carter earned 5th place in Informative with a new speech.
Eli Olmstead brought home 6th place in Dramatic Interpretation.
Kamri Nelson earned 3rd place in Program Interpretation.
Eryck Cantrell tried Program Interpretation as well, and earned 6th place.
Avery Hammons made her debut in Memorized Public Address and scored 3rd.

Next week, most of the team will attend an enormous meet in East Helena. Then they'll have a break from competition until January.

DCHS could still use volunteers to judge the home meet on January 17th. Email tumas@glendiveschools.org to get the link to the Google Form to sign up!

✨ Cultural Exchange Highlight! 🇵🇭🇺🇸
Today marks Mr. Pagawisan’s first culture exchange activity of the school year, and it was a meaningful celebration of learning, diversity, and global connection!

In line with the Thanksgiving celebration here in the USA, Mr. Pagawisan showcased a variety of vibrant Philippine festivities, sharing stories behind beloved traditions such as Sinulog, Panagbenga, Pahiyas, and more. His presentation brought color and culture to the classroom—made even more authentic by his wearing of a Barong Tagalog, the national formal attire of the Philippines.

We are proud to have Mr. Pagawisan as one of the district’s dedicated culture-exchange teachers. Now in his second year teaching High School Science, he continues to enrich students’ perspectives by connecting lessons to real-world cultures and global experiences.

Here’s to more opportunities for learning, celebrating diversity, and building understanding across cultures! 🌍✨

What a night! Honor Band & Honor Choir shine at DCHS!

Last night's Honor Band and Honor Choir concert was nothing short of spectacular! After two full days of focused rehearsals, students from Glendive, Sidney, Savage, Fairview, Circle, Wibaux, Terry, Baker, and Richey came together to deliver a performance that showcased their hard work and talent.

With the guidance of our dedicated guest conductors—who traveled a long way to work with these young musicians—each ensemble transformed into a cohesive, powerful group capable of creating a sound far beyond what any individual school could produce alone.

A huge thank-you to the students, directors, families, and community members who made this event possible and filled the auditorium with support. Nights like this remind us why music education matters—and why collaboration can create something unforgettable.

Honor Band and Honor Choir have been working hard at DCHS yesterday and today. They include students from Glendive, Sidney, Savage, Fairview, Circle, Wibaux, Terry, Baker, and Richey. Guest conductors have come a long way to work with them and turn them into strong, cohesive performing groups. They spend time in their own classes preparing beforehand, then rehearse together for two days. It's all worth it when they put on a spectacular concert unlike anything that any individual band or choir in attendance could do. The concert is tonight at 6pm and there is an admission charge.
