Mr. Pagawisan’s Advanced Biology students stepped into the shoes of forensic experts this week as they solved a crime using the Scientific Method!
Armed with a Police Report, clue cards, and chemical samples (sodium bicarbonate, dextrose , and vinegar cleverly simulating saliva and poison), students investigated the evidence, tested hypotheses, and pieced together the mystery.
But the challenge didn't end there. To get the final "missing" evidence, they needed to go to the office and recite the school's universals.
It wasn’t just science in action—it was critical thinking, problem-solving, and teamwork at its best. 👏

DCHS hosted Flag Football last week against Hardin. DCHS captured the win from the Bulldogs. Great job and good luck with your upcoming games. Go Big Red!
The classes had meetings to begin planning for the upcoming Homecoming events. They discussed hallway decorating, float decorating, the blitz day, and other activities that coincide with Homecoming. We hope the students will participate and demonstrate their DEVIL PRIDE! Go Big Red!

Yesterday, the Advanced Geo students were back out in the lunch areas. This time, they were tasked with obtaining exact measurements of the entire lunch area to create a scale for their final products. Working in teams, each group used measuring tapes and drew out their third drafts of the project.
The teamwork was great to see, and their attention to detail paid off in class today when they started making their final posters. Way to go, Devils!

The Dress Up Days have been decided for Homecoming Week! The Student Council has been planning for the festivities and this is just the start of the fun. September 21st - September 26th. Go Big Red!
Today in Advanced Geography, the students started their first project of the year. They will be spending the next couple of days creating to-scale maps of the DCHS lunch areas (Cafeteria and Courtyard). Today, they had to draw their chosen area from memory, then spend time in each location categorizing items and creating a detailed plan for tomorrow's measuring tasks. It was very exciting to see them use their geography mapping skills in this project. Way to go Devils!
DCHS Homecoming is just around the corner. In an attempt to have more community involvement, we would like to share the theme for this year. We will also be sharing the dress up days and other events which coincide with Homecoming Week soon.

🔬 We are zooming into the new school year with some serious focus! 🔬
Mr. Pagawisan’s biology students are already hard at work exploring the microscopic world. Our Sophomore Biology class kicked things off with an Introduction to the Microscope, while the Advanced Biology crew brushed up on their lab skills with a comprehensive review. Both groups got hands-on practice making their very own wet-mount specimen slides, using the classic newsprint letter "e" to master focus, magnification, and proper slide handling. 📝✨
But here is the absolute best part of the activity: Unlike the previous years, every single student had their own microscope! 🤩
No sharing, no waiting in line—just 100% hands-on learning with a phenomenal 1:1 student-to-microscope ratio. Having dedicated equipment for every student completely transforms how much time they get to spend actually observing and discovering.
A massive and heartfelt THANK YOU AGAIN to the Montana Masonic Foundation for their incredibly generous support in making this equipment upgrade a reality. Your contribution is directly empowering our students to dive deeper into science, one slide at a time! 🧬🏫

Activities for the first week of September.
Mr. Pagawisan's Advanced and Sophomore Biology classes had a fantastic time mastering foundational scientific techniques during their recent "Equipment Use - Station Lab activity"! Rotating through six hands-on stations, students practiced reading a meniscus to measure volume, calculating cubic centimeters with metric rulers, and utilizing the "zero/tare" function on digital scales for accurate mass readings. They also recorded Celsius temperatures, observed chemical reactions in well plates, and evaluated critical safety labels to ensure a safe laboratory environment. Great job to all the students for their focus and precision! Devils in learning mode.
