The Advanced Welding class has been hard at work refining their out of position SMAW skills. They have also been repairing a variety of projects including booth positioners, servicing shop equipment, and restoring the hinges on the Football Program’s equipment trailer.

The DCHS Forensics team took a smaller squad of 10 to compete in Plentywood on November 15. It was a more laid back day with fewer schools in attendance. Dawson was 3rd in both Speech and Drama sweeps out of the 3 Class A Schools, which is what we expected with such a small group, but there were great things happening nonetheless. Here are the individual results:
David Kingstad: 11th in Humorous Solo (trying out a brand new piece)
Ora Neves: 3rd in Dramatic Solo
Jace Gabbert & Harry Cook: 4th in Humorous Theatre
Eli Olmstead: 4th in Dramatic Oral Interpretation
Emma Hynes: 7th in Informative Speaking
Aubrey Carter: 4th in Informative Speaking
Jack Carter & Quinn Sargent: 2nd in Public Forum Debate
Kamri Nelson: 1st in Program Oral Interpretation
Forensics will take a couple of weeks off before venturing to Wolf Point on December 5th. Then, we'll have some extreme competition in East Helena on December 13th and again in Laurel on January 10th. The home Dawson meet will be January 17th and we'll be looking for volunteer judges from the community and surrounding area. Please email Coach Sonja Tuma at tumas@glendiveschools.org for information if you're interested in judging. I'll send you training videos!

🧪 SCIENCE IN ACTION! 🧬
In Mr. Pagawisan’s Advanced Biology class, our young scientists recently conducted a Yeast Fermentation Lab to explore how yeast breaks down different food sources — and they did it with the help of modern technology! 🙌
Using the Vernier Carbon Dioxide Sensor, students measured the amount of CO₂ produced by yeast during fermentation. They ran three trials, each with a different food source: glucose, sucrose, and starch. Their goal? To determine which food source allows yeast to produce the most carbon dioxide — and therefore, ferment more efficiently.
This hands-on activity not only strengthened their understanding of cellular respiration and fermentation, but also showcased how scientific technology can bring data to life right in the classroom. 📊🔬

🌿🔬 Sophomore Biology Spotlight! 🔬🌿
Mr. Pagawisan’s Biology class, our amazing sophomores got hands-on with a Stomata Lab Activity!
Students examined leaf samples under the microscope to observe stomata—tiny openings plants use to breathe. They explored how these structures help regulate gas exchange and water loss, deepening their understanding of plant physiology. 🌱✨

Welcome to Dawson County High School, Ryan Wilson!
Hello, my name is Ryan Wilson and this will be my first year in the Glendive School system. I have been teaching for over 10 years, but this is my first year as a special education teacher. I have worked the last decade along the Hi-Line working in both Malta and Wolf Point. My favorite part of working in education is the daily interactions that you get to have with the students. I am married with 2 kids, and 2
dogs. My son is a first year teacher in Big Sandy this year, and my daughter is in her 1st year as an education major. I enjoy coaching and am currently coaching football at the high school.
