Join the DCHS Key Clubbers and NHS members for some great fall fun at the first annual Fall Festival this Saturday, 10/25, from 12 to 3 pm at the EPEC. They'll be there running games and handing out candy during the event. Thank you to the Yellowstone Boys and Girls Ranch for organizing this community event. 🧫✨ A Bubbly Day for Advanced Biology! ✨🧫
Mr. Pagawisan’s Advanced Biology students took learning to a whole new level with their Cell Membrane Bubble Lab Activity! Using simple soap bubbles, they explored the complex beauty of cell membranes — and discovered that science can be both fascinating and fun!
Through hands-on investigation and using trays with soap solution, straws, and ribbon/yarn, students demonstrated six key cell concepts in action:
1️⃣ Membranes are Fluid and Flexible – just like bubbles that bend without breaking.
2️⃣ Membranes Can Self-Repair – watch a hole seal itself in seconds!
3️⃣ Eukaryotic Cells Feature Membrane-Bound Organelles – bubbles within bubbles show how compartmentalization works.
4️⃣ Membrane Proteins Perform Special Functions – with tools and models representing how proteins help with transport.
5️⃣ Gap Junctions Aid Transport Between Animal Cells – linking bubbles to share “materials.”
6️⃣ Many Bacteria Cells Reproduce Through Binary Fission – bubbles dividing perfectly into two!
It’s one thing to learn biology — but another to experience it firsthand. 🧠💡
Way to go, Advanced Bio students — curiosity and creativity are definitely bubbling over!

DCHS Activities October 13-18

💘 Valentine’s Day came early for the cell organelles! 💘
Mr. Pagawisan’s Advanced Biology class got cell-ebratory this week with their Cell Organelle Speed Dating activity! 🧬✨
Each student became an organelle looking for their perfect match — complete with:
📸 A “cell-fie” (organelle selfie)
💬 A cheesy pick-up line
🎶 A theme song
#️⃣ A trending hashtag
📍 Location (where the organelle can be found)
⚙️ Function (what it does for the cell)
😈 Bad habits (or what happens when the organelle goes missing!)
Students had 3 minutes to share their organelle’s “dating profile” before rotating to meet another cell part — just like real speed dating, but way more cell-educational!
From Mitochondria flexing their “powerhouse” energy 💪 to Ribosomes bragging about their protein game, the classroom was buzzing with bioscience and laughter.
💞 Even organelles need a little “cell-mate” connection sometimes!

🌿🧫 Plant Cell vs. Animal Cell Lab Day! 🧬🐾
Mr. Pagawisan’s Sophomore Biology class dove into the world of cells with their Plant Cell vs. Animal Cell Lab activity! Students got hands-on with science as they prepared their own onion cell slides 🌱 and cheek cell slides 😁 to observe under the microscope.
Through this activity, students compared cell structures, identified key differences between plant and animal cells, and discovered that even the tiniest building blocks of life have fascinating stories to tell! 🔬✨
Exploration, observation, and a whole lot of scientific curiosity filled the lab — a true cell-ebration of learning!
